A History of Christianity - By: M. A. Foley, 01 Jul 2010
Good set of videos. I missed some of the programmes on TV & was glad to get the series on DVD. I enjoyed watching it as the presenter was excellent except he could have left out telling us his persuasion.
A History of Christianity DVD - By: J. M. Heskins, 09 Jun 2010
I was so impressed by this programme when I watched it on TV that I decided to buy a number of copies to give to friends. I have not yet watched my own copy but remember that I felt that the programmes gave a clear account of the history of the Christian church, sometimesin ways that I had not previously considered.

I would recommend this series to anyone who has an interestin historyin general & Christianityin particular.
A History or a Trial? - By: C. Pietkiewicz, 31 May 2010
This whole series gives a slightly negative slant towards Christianity. I didn't like how MacCulloch made his own views of Christianity known by way of facial expression; frowning, looks of shock & bewilderment & clever camera work giving an eerie feel to some parts of this documentary. This negative slant, funnily enough, culminatesin the final part whereby MacCullock champions rationality & reveals his atheist sidein this chapter aptly named 'God on Trial'!

This documentary feels more like a trial of Christianity than a history. For example, when he explains the Crusades he uses the the 4th Crusade instead of the 1st. The 4th Crusade was the sacking of Constantinople & the slaughtering of Christians by Christians. Again, upon summarizing this event, MacCullock's closing remarks are followed by an expression of bewilderment.

The History of Christianityin MacCullock's eyes is most certainly biased & misses out a lot of the positive attributes & contributions of Christianity. However, it's still a very interesting & educational documentary that's well worth watching.
Ideologue gives biased trite - By: Mr Seán Wright, 08 Apr 2010
Having watched all 6 episodes, I was left constantly thinking that while some of what he said was true, the bits that he left out gave a very skewed version of history.

This series is very much a 21st century, trendy-wing-of-the-Anglican-communion item. Diarmaid, a homosexual & a lapsed Christian, presents it with something of a chip on his shoulder. I'd definitely avoid this, it's totally rubbish & can give a very confused idea of wthe history of Christianity.
