Trolloppe near his best. - By: A. J. Scrope, 13 Apr 2010
Great character development of main character & witty pen-sketches of the others.
This edition did not have any notes or preface. But it needs to be readin the knowledge that it pre-dates the Married Women's Property Act, ie that at the time of the novel, a woman's husband takes over all rights to what had been the property of his wife.
Miss Mackenzie by Anthony Trollope - By: Janet M, 26 Feb 2010
This book was a "neglected" classic chosen by Radio 4 recently. We read itin my book group & we thought it was great, & should not be neglected. It is a wonderful story about a put upon spinster who inherits money & is subsequently pursued by numerous suiters. It is full of great characters, often with names reflecting their work eg Mr Slow the lawyer & Mr Rubb the tradesperson. There is an intriguing twistin the middle, just as you are wondering how Trollope is going to keep the story going for another 200 pages. He does!
Kissing the mirror - By: Trollope & Fruitcake, 12 Feb 2010
One of Trollope's most poignant & well-observed novels - & a joy for us 40-something ladies. Yes, you can be plain & 40 & still get your man!
Miss Mackenzie - By: Kenneth N. Hambly, 12 Dec 2009
This was an interesting read promptly delivered. It was a present for my wife purchased after positive reviews on the radio. It is a less well known Trollope but should not be neglected. I am advised that this is indeed the case.
Delightful words - By: Mrs. J. Whitty, 01 Dec 2009
Trollope has written this just delightful tale about Miss Mackenzie which sensitizes you to her life, experiences, various living quarters, different romantic relationships [if that is what they are] & to many changing circumstances. She tells you through his words all about how she thinks , feels, inluding how she makes her decisions & her reasoning . It is all polite & thoroughly engaging. It should definitely bein the category of the classic novels
