keith moon stole my lipstick - By: C. Reef, 25 Aug 2008
Keith Moon Stole My Lipstick
This is a must-read book for anyone who lived through - or is interestedin - the pop scene of the swinging 60's & 70's. From it's quirky title to the updates at the end the book has everything - humour, pathos, anecdotes about many of the major celebs of that era & some great photos. The author writes about her early years as a pop journalist with endearing humility & I particularly liked the way she uses flashbacks to her childhood to link past & present allowing the reader to share her journey through teens to young woman. I couldn't stop thinking about it which is high praise from me.....and I'm not often prompted to write reviews!
Thoroughly enjoyed it! - By: J. Allen, 22 Aug 2008
Well I've finished reading this now after receiving it two days ago, & I wasn't disappointed!
I found it funny, interesting, sad, eye-opening & a good story. Hard to believe it is all true (though I do know it is) - sometimes truth really is more peculiar than fiction.
The author lived through all the great formative years of the London pop & show business scene & what is special about this book is that she was just an 'ordinary' person & thus has a fresh take on all that happened during the late 60s & 70sin the so-called 'swinging' place that was London.
The tales of the famous people she met are often hilarious & great - & she can be bitchy too - but that is by no means all there is to the book; it is a story of the opening of the eyes of a teenage girl as she tries to make her often wobbly way through life.
As one of the reviewers says on the cover it is, occasionally, profound.
The photos & copies of old mag & newspaper cuttings & other of the author's personal stuff - pages & pages of them - are also fascinating.
To conclude, I would recommend this book as a light but absorbing weekend read, or a present for anyone aged over around 45 who lived through that era, or actually anyone who enjoys retro culture.
Interesting and Intelligent - By: Ms. J. Casper, 20 Aug 2008
Having just finished reading this book, I can honestly say that it's very well written, interesting & intelligent, but also fun. I relieved some of my old crushes, learned some great stories about people whom I always admired, & most of all I saw the world of superstars through the eyes of a down home girl. Judith's honesty shines through on each page & her candor does both her & the book, great justice.
I laughed. I oohed & ahhed, & I was more than a little jealous. I could sympathize with her early home life & the way celebrity magazines can offer young people much more than a spicy story. They often help build dreams & give the young person a better sense of worth, as is exemplifiedin Keith Moon Stole My Lipstick.
