JUSTICE - By: EM JAY, 20 May 2007
Hilary Lloyd has captured the innermost thoughts of a woman surviving alone. Writtenin the first person,in the present tense, this book is a chronicle of adjusting to life without shared responsibility or commitment. A freedom that many women wish for but do not want thrust upon them.
However this is not an indulgent exercise but a brilliant story, buildingin suspense to an exciting climax.
Buy this book if you livein the country; buy this book if you livein a city; we can all learn something about ourselves from this book.

I cannot thank Hilary Lloyd enough for writing this book. Not only is it a great read that grips you by the throat from the first paragraph, it's hugely informative about a subject people outside of the rural community know virtually nothing about - foot & mouth disease. I was one of those townies who sat tutting at the news night after night knowing what was going on couldn't be right - the cull first, test later mentality - but until I read 'A necessary killing' I had no idea how very badly wrong the government got things. Everyone who cares about the countryside should read this, so should every vet. And it should be required reading for all the pen pushers at Defra.
Aside from all that this is a compelling novel that traces the anguish of a widow through her bereavement & the worst nightmare of her life. Yes, it's raw, emotional & brave, but it's not all doom & gloom. At it's heart this is also a story about the bonds of friendship. A masterful debut novel.
