Funny and unusefull facts - By: C. Herrador, 04 Nov 2008
I bought this book because i am about to set upin Australia with my aussie boyfriend (i never been before). So i thought it will be a good training to learn a bit more about the Australian culture. My boyfriend was often really surprised because even though he is from Oz, he was not aware of a lot of things regarding his own country. The book relates about politics, history, sport, wildlife, cinema, giving lots of figures (not up-to-date unfortunately) so it is very diverse (which make it less boring to read). Also, it is quite easy to read as it is only short stories. Well i would say it is good books for no-Australian who are aiming to go down under & want to impress Aussie with knowing (pointless) things those themselves don't even know about! But It can be good fun!

The author give us many short & lively factual bits on Australia's culture, history & natural features. He covers everyone from Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee movies) to Ned Kelly (Victorian-era hero/outlaw whose colorful life was toldin 3 movies - one starring the late Heath Ledger). Kangaroos, deadly snakes & insects, fave sports like soccer & cricket, & the ancient aborigines are all featuredin this armchair tour of the Outback country visited by Mark Twainin 1897.
