Easy healthy meals on a budget! - By: Amy Entwistle, 04 Aug 2008
I got a copy of this bookin the old cover style & it has definitely been a lifesaver.
All the recipes are easy, you don't need any fancy equipment & the dishes range from incredibly cheap to something to splash out on (Like the vodka chili!!) although the majority of them will definitely not break the bank.
Although it is a student cookbook I'd recommend it to anyone as some meals are impressive enough to serve to guests, but it also has fun family meals as well. All quantities are for 2 people so easy to divide or multiply up as well. I also like the snacks & standbys section at the end which has great lunchtime recipes.
This book was written by combining the Student cookbook & the Vegetarian student cookbook, so there are a lot of vegetarian recipes & a fair amount of recipes which are adaptable for vegetarians & non vegetarians. I found a few old favourite recipesin here but the grand majority are new dishes I'd never tried before & that made it fun as well.
Another thing I like about the book is each recipe is rated on how long it takes to cook & prepare, which is useful if you are starving. And the instructions are simple & concise so you don't get put off, without being patronising.
Best Buy for Student - By: Maggie Mae, 07 Oct 2007
Just purchased this book for my daughter who has just started uni. Although still living at home she has taken a sudden interestin cooking making me loads of luvverly dishes. The book is well laid out with easy instructions & the recipes are full of healthy ingredients which are easily accessed. I love the twist at the end of the book on how to make a banana sandwich!! I now know that when my daughter does move into accommodation she will be able to be self sufficient without pigging out on takeaways. Excellent stocking filler for all students
