The Human Whose Name is Written in this Note Shall Die. - By: Susie, 02 Dec 2008
Prior to watching the anime of Death Note, I knew very little of manga or anime. I'd seen Chobits, however, & I thought that was brilliant. But that was before I turned to Death Note. It is the story of 17 year-old Light Yagami, who's future is dedicated to the creation of a 'New World' from the moment he picks up a notebook claiming its powersin a list of instructions on the inside cover. From the first episode, I was transfixed, & since then, I couldn't stop watching. I got so into it I even took the time of learning the lyrics to the 1st opening theme 'The World' & now I can sing itin Japanese! I reached the end of the episodes & decided to give the manga a go. Incredibly, the manga is just as good, if not better, than the anime. The thing with Death Note is that it has the most involving, captivating, intriguing plot & never ceases to shock you. You really feel the development of the characters as you progress through, &in discovering their take on the murder case, you really begin to understand & support one of themin the battle against Kira or L. Everyone into manga should really enjoy Death Note!
Arigato for reading =)
WOW!! - By: Mr. T. A. Mckenzie, 10 Nov 2008
I was shocked when I read this manga...I enjoyed it so much! The storyline is detailed & intreging, while at the same time not confusing; bits are added at different times so as to not confuse anyone. Furthermore, not only is the storyline great but the animation is good also. To be honest, I wasn't expecting it to be this good, but even if you've not read manga before, I guaruntee you'll find it hard to put this book down!
Who is justice? - By: J. Gradwell, 01 Nov 2008
Death Note is a best selling manga setin our world a world where crime roams free & one man wants that gone.... well more like he wants it dead.
He will do anything to do just that.
Now I wont go into the story much as its been said so meny times there is no point. But what I will say that it is fantastic with a plot & cast that will suck you right in.
The fact that it has a hit anime series now two movies & a spin off film says something.
I hope you buy this & love every bit as I have done.

Simple Premise: Perfect Execution - By: Quicksilver, 06 Oct 2008
I have recently discovered Manga & having recently completed Osama Tezuka's incomparable Buddha series Buddha: Kapilavastu (Buddha), thought I'd look for something a little more contemporary. Intrigued by it's premise, I had picked up the Deathnote novel Death Note: A Novel: Another Note (Death Note): A Novel: Another Note (Death Note), without initially realising that it had been inspired by an existing Manga series, so this seemed like the ideal place to start.
It's fair to say, I was blown away. The premise is elegantly simple; A teenage prodigy finds a notebook belonging to a Death God. The book enables him to kill anybody he chooses, anywherein the world. This single idea spawns a complex morality tale, about justice, punishment & how to build a better society.
Once the world's most heinous criminals start dying en masse, the world's most successful criminologist, the mysterious 'L', is calledin to track the perpetrator. What follows is a fascinating came of cat-and-mouse as the two towering intellects attempt to out do each other.
Deathnote, reminded me of 'Battle Royale'Battle Royale (Gollancz S.F.) (the novel, I havent read any of the Manga books) which also has a single, violent premise at its centre, but engages the reader, forcing them to consider the world around them. Both novels are horrifyingin their detail but at their core, the events & motives of the characters, although exaggerated, are believable. Deathnote is an extremely enjoyable read. If you have never read any Manga or fancy exploring the genre's darker recesses, then you could do a lot worse than starting here.
My first manga - By: S. J. Anderson, 26 Apr 2008
I've beenin to anime for a little while now, & recently decided to give manga a go. I've always liked the art stylein American comics so was interested to see what manga was like. Well I've been hearing loads about Death Note recently (and I've ordered the first volume of the anime), so thought for my first manga to give it a try.
IT'S BRILLIANT!!!
The artwork is great, & some panels really stand out thanks to some stunning detail. This first volume introduces some of the main charcaters & the overall plot, as well as the vast power of the Death Note. It's a great start to what I can tell will be a great series (just have to get all the other volumes now:p). I have absolutely no problems with this manga, but there was one thing I was surprised about. I expected it to be like an actual comic, but it's actually just a small paperback book. Nothing wrong wih that though, saves a lot of space!
A brilliant manga & looking forward to purchasing more. Very highly recommended.
