Disappointing after Syllabus 3 - By: , 20 Mar 2005
As an ECDL Tutor I am very disappointed with the latest syllabus 4 versions of this book, both XP & 2000, particularly Module 5 which is short on explanation & high on errors. I loved the Syllabus 3 book which seemed to have been tested & proofread much more thoroughly & even recommended the book to a number of people to buy despite its relatively high cost. I feel that the Syllabus 4 books were rushed out to meet the demand for Syllabus 4 courseware & have not been tested properly. Some modules are exceptions with the Module 4 part being well written with exercises that follow a logical progression. I have spent not an insignificant amount of money on various Blackrock ECDL books on the basis of my satisfaction with the first one & am left feeling irritated & slightly ripped off. The ECDL Foundation approve the materials so they must also share the blame.
The only ECDL manual that you will ever need to buy! - By: Alison Mcdonald, 31 Jan 2005
I approached the ECDL with trepidation as I am notin anyway computer literate. However, this book has a Before You Begin section that was really helpful. The book is well written & has very clear instructions. There were exercises for each section & sample tests. It also comes with a CD that has extra exercises too.
I liked the fact that it was spiral bound because I could easily fold it back or leave it open on my knee while I was working without it falling off or closing.
You can tell that a lot of thought & work was put into this book. It is well paced, well researched & it is written with the student's needsin mind.
In all, I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get the ECDL qualification with one book.
Excellent book for beginners and all ECDL students - By: , 24 Feb 2004
As a tutor of ECDL, I have always used Blackrock Education Centre's text books. This one is every bit as good as the Syllabus 3 book. Writtenin the same clear & concise manner, students are able to follow it with ease. I can most highly recommend this book to anyone intending to sit ECDL examinations or even to a beginner who is finding their own way around a computer.
