Wow! 6 stars!
Get lostin this book forever! Be inspired! I keep on finding new stuffin this all the time, loads of great ideas, amazing stories. I think the format makes it even more fun & loads of hand drawn sketches give you loads of inspiration. Check out Homework too & see how many people shelter has inspired. I love it, i bet you will too.
Excellent introduction to alternative housing... - By: , 12 Jan 2001
I am currently researching for a book on alternative housing & found a second hand edition of this bookin a bookstore - it looks very much like I was beaten to it by these guys. They've done an excellent job - with articles on Tipis, domes & even pictures of a squatted housing communityin London. I especially like the small black an white picture of the driftwood house built on top of a waterfall... The only reason I wouldn't give this 5 stars is because of the format of the book - Its the same size as a broadsheet newspaper (although this may have changed with newer printing of this title) & with around 200 pages is even more difficult to read on the train.
Informative and Interesting - By: , 25 Sep 1998
I believe this book was out of print for a while so it is nice to have it back. Architecture students or anyone with an interestin architecture would appreciate this book. It is a good look at how humans have satisfied one of our basic needs. It is an exhaustive collection of human habitats, writtenin a clever & unprentious way (unlike most architecture books!). If you like this book, you may also enjoy books by Witold Rybczynski such as Home, & Looking Around.
