Readers with a sense of the ironic only! - By: Mr. P. J. Morris, 04 Oct 2007
Do not approach The Devils Notebook expecting an occult tome with great Satanic insight for it will only disappoint you.
I actually love LaVeys writing stylein this book but it takes a great deal of reading with a large pinch of salt. It is simply a collection of observances by the deceased Satanist which if you read with an open heart allows a great deal of the unique flavour of the left-hand path to flood in. I'd recommend to any free thinker but for those with a deeper esoteric bent then I'd steer you towards LaVeys 'Satan Speaks' as the better colection of essays.
It's just small talk - By: Ricardo Coelho, 31 Jan 2006
I believe this book is just a very soft reading, kind of critical view of the world, sometimes funny, sometimes boring. If you want to spend some time reading something soft it's ok, but if you really want to learn something new & usefull, pick another book
Diabolically Written - By: Andrew, 03 Sep 2003
Having read The Satanic Bible by LaVey & found myself & my life's attitudes acknowledged & vindicated within it's delightfully sinister covers, I naturally moved on to read other works by the same author. With a quick scanin the bookshop hinting that this was another wondeful tome of wisdom, I was at the chechout before you could scream "Hail Satan!" And what a disappointment it was. Taken little section by litle section, it is possible to make some sense out of the essays & rants contained within, but it is far from clear & consistent exposition. Mr LaVey seems hell-bent on using the largest components of his lexiconin the most confusing manner possible. Oh for an author who simply says what he means without the pomp of long words & obscure references! To follow my own advice: this book is a muddled (at best) account of satanic thought; and, having finished, it leaves one less clear as to his message. You'd be better buying something else - Satan Speaks, for example.
PS: If there is anyone out there who actually finds this stuff coherent, please, please, get help.
READ IT NOW!!!! - By: minister_for_pain@yahoo.com, 14 Feb 2002
This is a really good read - I recommend it to anyone even remotely interestedin the occult. It even has a cool section on Lycanthropes (Werewolves), & some of the stuffin there helped me a lot. It also ties up a lot of loose ends from the Satanic Bible (But then again, so does Satanic Rituals...)
My advice to you all is to go buy this book & digest its contents.
Judge for yourself - By: , 02 Apr 2000
Unfortunately, most people do not understand Anton La Vey, yet choose to read books stemming from the Satanic Bible. I urge anyone who wants to know tabout the basics of Satanism to read the Bible first. I also believe that Dr La Vey used second-hand views & methods because they have been researched, used & worked; perhaps he supports these teachings & is therefor sharing them. This is a difficult subject to fully understand & justify, & so it is advisable to educate ones self on the basic philosophy before leaping for the most judgeable works. A wonderful book, & a very intelligent author. A must for any Satanists.
