Walter Brueggemann is an extraordinary communicator. His scholarly credentials are impeccable but he combines his academic prowess with an ability to communicate spiritual insights which are perceptive & down to earth. This is the best commentary on Samuel that I have ever used & still sets the benchmark for current attempts. If you want to study Samuel, this is where to start.
