This is the book I have been waiting for since I was very young... - By: Kevin Hirons, 04 Jan 2009
The Shadow of the Wind is quite an amazing piece of writing. I have been reading books for many years & have never come across anything that has captured my imaginationin the way that this book has.
The story itself starts with a young boy named Daniel who is introduced to a Gothic secret library called the 'Cemetary of forgotten books' by his father. Once there he is told to pick a book from the library. The book that he takes is 'The Shadow of the wind' written by an Author named Julian Carax. After reading the book, Daniel is so enthralled, he decides to find out more about the author. This is where the journey begins as he finds that Carax has dissapeared & a dark figure, a character from the book is stalking Daniel.....
This is the best novel that I have ever read. I can recommend it to anyone who enjoys deep dark mysteries with solid characters that you feel you actually know after reading the book.
Very much looking forward to Carlos Ruis Zafon's next book.
The Shadow of the Wind - my favourite book of all time - By: K. Magill, 23 Dec 2008
This novel is not only an un-put-down-able read, but the most heart warming yet heart wrenching tale, so much so that you just cannot help being submersedin every word of the text. From the very first read, this book has never failed to bring me to tears or to make me laugh out loud. Each time I work my way through it's pages, I fall a little morein love with it. Clever, witty, hurtful & so full of longing & emotion. If that's not enough to entice you to read The Shadow of the Wind, well I don't know what is!
Best ever - By: S, 12 Dec 2008
I am 24 years old & I am an avid reader so read many booksin my time on this earth. However, this is far the best book I have ever read.
Beautifully written, heart mealting, a pure delight. Someone already said that this,in time, will become a classic & I have to absolutely agree.
Not a single classic I have read, compares to this book. The words are pure poetic. I will be reading this again very soon.
A masterpiece. Well done Mr. Carlos Ruiz Zafon!!!

this book has to be one of the best i have ever read. I read victoria Hislops The Island last year & was enthralled by it & it took me about two days to read it. after that many of the books i read were dissapointing but i have to say that this is one of the very best i have ever ever read & i read loads. i would strongly argue that everyonein the world should read this book at least once they would not be disappointed.
Dodgy title - should have been a warning sign - By: Mrs. L. Britt, 09 Dec 2008
This book was recommended to me by someone whose opinion I respect, but unfortunately I just cannot find much meritin it. It is poorly written. The prose is laborious to the point of tedium. The sexual references are thinly veiled mysogyny.
The proliferation of minor characters which are there to supply a piece of the jigsaw is confusing & I often had to retrace to remind myself. This was because they had not been brought to lifein the writing & mergedin together - especially the women.
When the baddie went off 'cocoonedin his hollow laughter' near the start of the book I knew..... I did forgive this & plough on, but never recovered from such crassness. I had lost my trustin the author & knew I was notin safe hands. Can't believe the polarity of the reviews. NOT good literature.
