A Charmed Life - By: Sue W, 06 Sep 2002
Knowing I am a great fan of David my daughter ordered this book for my 50th Birthday & what a great present!
David has written this just as though he were talking to us -it is so hard to put down but I want to make it last so ration myself to a chapter each time I pick it up.
There are several pages of photos from the early days to family shots, which I enjoyed - some of which I'm sure most people will not have seen before.
Allin all a great book & insight into the life of a superb artiste - & a great present. Thank you.
Charmed by the life of One of Britain's Greatest Performers - By: Sally Lowe, 02 Sep 2002
I suspect the media already hate this book - no dirt dished no kiss & tell.
David Essex has eloquently told it as it as. In doing so he has given the reader a rare insight into his family & shared his passion for music & performing.
His tremendous talent, continued successes & popularity make him undeniably uniquein the business today. This book is his first hand account of how it all happened. Despite deliberately failed exams, blowing up a few lorries & the odd unsavoury character he emerges relatively unscathed & by his own admission "charmed". The diversions along the way make excellent reading, highlighting his perspective on life & sense of fun. His recounted anecdotes cannot fail to bring both smiles & tears to the reader. (I particularly liked the one about the milk cart horses!) This book clearly puts aside the media myths that nowadays inevitably arise when one is sucessful on pure talent & sheer hard work. It reveals (for those who don't already know) his professionalism, his love of life, work & family. There is no pretence attached to Mr Essex. He discloses his respect & thanks to both fellow perfomers & critics alike.
I would recommend "A Charmed Life" to all would be's / wanna be's. The book like its Author exudes integrity & is a true testament. I am sure those to whom it is dedicated are extremely proud of him.
David Essex is without doubt one of Britain's greatest performers (long may he continue). I like many others look forward to the next 50 years!
