couldn't put it down - By: Debs, 11 May 2008
This book & the prevoius twoin the trilogy gives you an insight into the plight of ordinary working class families caught upin the terrible times of WW2. It keeps you wanting to know more & more about the Pearl Street families & how they coped & survived. A fab book that I would recommend to anyone.

This is the second Maureen Lee book I have read & I found this book to be a brilliant read. You really get to know the characters & feel for them. Maureen Lee is a fantastic writer & I will definitely be reading more of her books.
Another Wonderful Tale - By: Trinity J, 18 Jan 2006
Maureen Lee is my favorite novelist, there hasnt been a book she has written that I havent liked & this is no exception, her books wash over you & envelope youin a history so rich that & a story so realistic that by the end you will be sad to leave it behind.
A brilliant finish to the series!! - By: , 30 Dec 2004
A superb book individually & a great finish to the pearl street series. After reading many books setin this period this is one of my favourites along with Queen of the Mersey by Maureen Lee & A Little Love Song by Michelle Magorian. After I finished reading this I felf emotionally attached to the characters & just wished I could find out what happened next! Definetely worth purchasing!

all three books have been so well written that you feel as if you know every person & you can feel the atmosphere. they give a good insight into what it was really like & also the great sence of everyone pulling together & doing their bit. much the same style as harry bowling but much easier to read & you feel more as if you are there. well done maureen lee.
