sticking with it! - By: twigs way, 22 Aug 2007
I am a rabbit owner (of 10!) rather than a vet & recently bought this book to try & help me understand the various drugs/treatments that the vet gives my rabbits when theyhave problems. Despite its obviously academic approach & technical landguage it has already helped me understand more about how myxi jabs work, & the various impacts on the rabbit of E. cunniculi. For the dedicated rabbit owner this book is extremely enlightening - & one can always 'google' thewords you don't understand first time round. I would recommend this & Rabbitlopedia as my two must haves for the person who has a real involvementin rabbits, whether that be a vet, vet nurse, rescue centre or particularly involved owner. The description of the gut alone was worth it!!

This book is suitable for rabbit owners who are interestedin the health of their pet & want to learn more. Worth every penny, as everything & anything about rabbits is includedin this book. If its notin here, I wouldn't believe it.
Not just for vets! - By: R. Green, 10 Jan 2006
Frances Harcourt-Brown is a leading authority on rabbit medicine/care & this is reflectedin the Textbook Of Rabbit Medicine. Covering topics from diet & husbandry through to anaesthesia & analgesia, this is not just a valuable tool for vets but also for the scientifically-minded owner.
This book covers a wide range of subjectsin more detail than can be foundin a number of other books on the same subject making it great value for money. Having said that, surgical procedures are only touched upon & I would not recommend this book for those wanting to specialisein this area. Allin all a fantastic book - a long-awaited stepin the right direction for rabbit medicine!
best rabbitbook - By: Eva Tuer, 18 Nov 2004
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about rabbit medicine. I have also read the BSAVA manual of rabbit medicine & found Harcourts book giving far more value for the money.
Superb and comprehensive guide to rabbit medicine - By: , 08 Jun 2004
Frances Harcourt-Brown is a highly respected vet with many years' experiencein general practice, & is well known as an expert on rabbits, having published various influential papers on rabbit disease. As a small animal vet who sees more rabbits than most, I have found this book absolutely invaluable. It comprehensively covers all areas of rabbit medicine, & deals both with well-understood & simple conditions, & with those poorly understood at the time of publication (such as Encephalitozoon cuniculi). The illustrations are clear & helpful.
Although the book is clearly written, it is certainly intended for vets rather than pet owners, & I would think it would provide far more detail than the average pet owner would require. Another consideration is that Mrs Harcourt-Brown is British; for me, that's an advantage, but I don't know how many drugs, etc that she mentions would be readily availablein other countries. Also, this is a book of medicine, & as such doesn't cover surgical techniquesin any detail.
However, I would highly recommend this book to any vet who seriously wants to consolidate their knowledge of rabbit medicine. All veterinary textbooks are expensive, butin my opinion this one more than justifies its cost. I can't think of a case I've treated where it didn't provide me with at least some helpful information.
