This book gave me hope - By: A Customer, 11 Nov 2008
I have recently had a miscarriage which left me devastated. No one from the medical profession at the hospital or GP surgery were helpful or supportive at such an emotional time. I read this book 3 weeks after my ERPC operation & it was the first time that I though that there was a light at then end of the dark tunnel, that there was something I could do to improve my chances of getting pregnant again & having a live take home baby. It is well written, easy to read, full of so much useful advice. There are so many things I did not know that could affect fertility, & the steps that need to be taken to rectify deficiencies, improve nutrition are simple & achievable to anyone. I cannot thank Dr M Glenville enough - she gave me hope about the future & I hope you'll feel the same after reading this book.
Worked for us - By: G. Willits, 09 Jan 2008
I haven't read this book but my wife has.
We had been trying for children for four years & had three depressing experiences of failed IVF.
At forty things were looking bleak.
Then when we started following the advicein this book things began to change. Eating organic vegetables, taking vitamin supplements & cutting out unhealthy things such as booze & chocolate had immediate benefits to our energy levels & moods.
Next my wife became pregnant.
Unfortunately it turned out to be an ectopic pregnancy. Only six months later & we had another result - only this turned out to be a miscarriage.
Finally four months after that we had our latest & so far at 26 weeks successful pregnancy.
I am now being inundated with information requests from friends & family who want to know how we have managed this after so many years. So here I am - finding the link to send them.
I know that Marlyns book does not contain any startling new revelations about how to improve your fertility -in fact its a damn hard slog. Her book is ( according to the Missus ) well written, thorough & practical.
Also, from the book you can find information about all the vitamin supplements you may need if you have depleted them through years of bad diet.
I know I sound like I'm being paid to write this, but I am excited at the prospect of being a dad & grateful that we found this book.
Excellent reading and very helpful - By: , 05 Mar 2006
After almost 3 years of trying to conceive & western medicine failing us, we discovered Dr Glenville. This book offers a basic method of using vitamins & minerals to correct imbalancesin your body. It is quick & easy to read & also shows which fertility tests would be useful & which not. It also has many contacts if further information is required. We booked an appointment with Dr Glenville & we received an more detailed individual supplement regime along with help & support for the other areas of our lives which could affect fertility, eg stress & 'unseen' medical problems. After following Dr Glenville's regime alongside Foresight recommendations & natural family planning (as described by Toni Weschler) we conceivedin the second month & now have a very happy healthy boy. We cannot thank her enough.
FAB FAB FAB - By: J SUTTON, 16 Mar 2005
AFTER 3 MISCARRIAGES LIKE MOST PEOPLE IN THE SAME SITUATION I WAS DESPARATE FOR ANY ADVICE TO HELP HAVE A BABY. ADMITTEDLY I DIDN'T DO EVERYTHING SHE SAID - BUT I DID TAKE THE RECOMMENDED VITAMINS RELIOUSLY AS DID MY HUSBAND - TWO MONTHS LATER WHEN I FELL PREGNANT AGAIN I WENT ONTO TO GIVE BIRTH TO A BEAUTIFUL SON AND HAVE SINCE HAD ANOTHER ONE - (STILL TAKING THE VITAMINS). INFACT I WAS SO SURE THAT THIS HELPED ME I ALSO RECOMMENDED IT TO ANOTHER FRIEND WHO WAS IN THE SAME PREDICTAMENT AND SHE ALSO FELL PREGNANT AFTER TAKING THE SUPPLEMENTS AND DID NOT MISCARRY.
READING OTHER REVIEWS IT OBVIOUSLY WORKS FOR SOME AND NOT OTHERS BUT MY ADVICE IS IF YOU DON'T TRY YOU'LL NEVER KNOW - WORSE CASE YOU WOULD HAVE WASTED YOUR MONEY - BEST CASE YOU'LL HAVE A BUNDLE OF JOY - WHAT MORE CAN I SAY!!!
Superficial and poorly written: a rip-off for the vulnerable - By: Britgrrl, 14 Jan 2005
I was deeply disappointedin this book. I bought it based on the reviews I'd read here, & read it as soon as it arrived. It told me nothing I didn't already know from other reading & basic internet research, & while it promised a "detailed four month plan to improve your health before conception" that detailed plan was written on less than one page (!) & simply suggested taking supplements (detailed elsewherein the book) & not eating non-organic food - something that is extensively & more effectively written about elsewhere. The book contains very little about how to use exercise & mediation to deal with the stress of trying to conceive, is very unclear on explanations of possible problems you may be experiencing, & provides extremely superficial content on chinese herbs which would have been better left out entirely as if anyone tried to self-medicate based on the information provided here they could get themselves into serious trouble.
I would strongly recommend that you buy an alternative. A combination of "taking control of your fertility" by Toni Wechsler & "fertility & conception" by Zita West would do the job of this book much more effectively. If you want to deal specifically with issues when you cannot conceive (which both these do touch on), then you might want to add "the infertility cure" which talks about chinese medicine, and/or a book on meditation such as those by Alice Domar and/or "yoga for fertility". This will provide a much more helpful, less patronising selection for your bookshelf.
