Indepth and excellent resource for HRM - By: Lateau, 03 Jan 2009
This text is excellent for anyone who is studying Human Resources or trying to deepen their understanding of the subject. Unlike other texts that are difficult to 'access' this one is well laid out & easy to understand.
I find that when other texts do not give the coverage that I require, this one does & offers perspectives on it as well. I am surprised by how often I do dip back into it to further my understanding.
If you want a book that gives the overall coverage, as well as a degree of depthin the subject areas then this is a definite buy.
Important reading - By: A A Jackson, 20 Jan 2006
Ideal for those studying for HR at HNC level & above. Takes a lot of jargon out of the subject & strays away from buzz words & managerial techy speak.

Very easy to read. All theories are explainedin simple terms that are easily understood.
Lots of bullet points instead of long paragraphs. Theories demonstrated by simple table & diagrams.
Index by subject & a second index by author, with lots of references to other writers.

Highly Recommended ! - By: Rolf Dobelli, 15 Mar 2005
Human resources professionals will find Michael Armstrong's book practical, helpful & relevant. It discusses all facets of current practice, including such relatively new developments as e-learning & recruiting, & it discusses how you can help your organization implement change. The book would make an excellent college text, since it covers HRM's evolution, principles, theories, practice, research, job descriptions & more. The author seems to have two goals: to provide comprehensive information about human resource management & to persuade upper level managers to integrate HRM into strategic planning. This would empower HR departments to generate broader organizational results. To get the most from this manual, given its textbook style, practitioners may wish to study it chapter by chapter. Since organizational philosophies, functions & practices differ, it even lends itself to further discussion when HRM professionals gather to share ideas & swap proven practices. We think thosein the field will derive a great deal of value from this book.

As a CIMA Student, I have found this book extremely useful for Paper 11 (OM) & no doubt will find it just a usefulin later papers. As a supervisor I have found it practical & helpfulin all areas of work directly & indirectly linked with staff management. A very good reference book for managers & students alike.
