Insincere - By: Charlotte, 14 Dec 2008
I know that I will bein a minority here, but I really disliked the style of this book which is faux naive, hipper than thou,I dont give a damn, punctuationless & stream of consciousness.Very often phrases are repeated ad nauseum for emphasis, like the lyrics of some gloomy old rock song,a cheap & hackneyed device.
I don't know whether Leonard is supposed to be real or not, whether this was a roman a clef, but even if Leonard is real he felt like too much even for this book.
I also simply could not believe that Allison's parents weren't more worried about her safety after meeting Leonard. Also, that if Leonard were so paternal he would get Frey to be some kind of criminal gofer for him.
There is a tedious druggy feel to the book, & the descriptions of the meals & food, the money pointlessly spent, were excessive & cloying. When I finished it I had a very bad hangover.Or as Frey would write it
A
Very
bad
hangover.

Amazing follow up - By: Dsr Wilson, 14 Aug 2008
Even better than A Million Little Pieces. I read them back to back, & amin awe of Mr Frey. He is without doubt a major talent, with an ability to engage the reader completely. I look forward to reading his future work.
GET IT AND YOU'LL LOVE IT!! - By: Gemma Brinkley, 18 Mar 2008
This is an emotional, follow on book from 'A Million Little Pieces' I personally didnt thnk anything could top that book, but James Frey surely compelled mein both books. His journey is a emotional rollercoaster through his timein rehab, his experience'sin life & the people he meets along the way. 'My Friend Leonard' focuses on a friendship with Man James Frey meetsin rehab & how he impacts his life.
THIS IS A MUST READ!! as is 'A Million Little Pieces'.Anyone & everyone who loves honesty & integrity will love this book!!!
Who cares if some of it's embelished - By: J. I. Burgoyne, 19 Feb 2008
I have to say I love the stylein which James Frey writes his novels it is so refreshing & keeps you hooked from start to finish. The ending of this book is not expected but all the same brilliant. After reading a Million Little Pieces I was wary of reading this incase it did not live up to the first novel but I was not dissapointed at all & would reccomend it to anyone. Two thumbs up!!
a nice surprise - By: Mez, 01 Aug 2007
I've not read his other book..but I really enjoyed this one... I found his writing very different, which is good. It made me cry (almost twice)... I loved the ending... & missed the book once I had finished it. I would have been happy to carry on reading for a few more tube rides. A lovely book.
