Fantastic! - By: Mary Johnson, 21 Jul 2008
I have read many parenting books to date but this one is BY FAR the very best! It's not scientific mumbo jumbo or psycho-babble it is plain English & down to earth. You find yourself constantly going "oh yes - of course!" or "ah, thats how to do it?". I have tried a few of the techniques from the book so far & THEY WORK! Early days but I feel optimistic & excited about my girl for the first timein 3 years. The book makes you feel that you are not alone & far from an alien, you actually have a normal one! It's like having an experienced friend at hand 24/7 & it is a book I will dive into again & again as a reference aid when the going gets tough & I need some support.
All teenagers should come with a copy!
Absolutely essential - By: Heidi Becket-clinton, 05 Jul 2008
This book was *Absolutely* fantastic. I am currently re-reading it just after only having it for a few days. With so much turmoil between me & my step-kids, I've been at my witts end.. So much emotion that i'm not used to or ever had to deal with, so many negatives, so much tension, & oddly so very much anxiety!! I realise siblings will be siblings, & consider myself to be pretty laid back! Just WOW these two DO NOT GET ALONG & to be ANYWHERE near them is a nightmare. Sarah's book is probably the FIRST light of hope I've hadin all of this. I even wrote to her on her web site saying I resented the fact that she'd not written more! ;o) Very easy, clear & intelligent reading; not to mention - extraordinarily helpful & of *tremendous comfort*in all the chaos.
I've 'endured' a slew of books on this issue, all I can say is I WISH I'd gotten this one first...(20 some odd books later!) -- GET *THIS* BOOK (and no im not a marketing rep or anything, just very adimant about how much the book helped me!) Thanks :)
From a very grateful school nurse - By: Mrs. E. Baxter, 30 Oct 2007
Fantastic book with realistic advice, not only has this book helped me to understand my own teenagers but its been a great help to me when parents are asking for practical solutions to dealing with their not so familiar teenagers.
Putting yourself in your teenager's shoes - By: C. R. Dodd, 04 Oct 2007
What I loved about this book is that it helps you see things from your teenager's point of view. Sarah Newton's advice isn't about indulging your kids - far from it - but rather she shows how important it is to treat them with respect. From the title I was expecting something a bit 'jokey' & was rather relieved to find it wasn't like that at all. It's down to earth & practical & comes from someone who really knows what she's talking about.
Help my teenager is an alien - By: Mrs. C. S. Matheson, 28 Sep 2007
There is no such thing as the perfect family. It doesn't exist despite what you might readin magazines & newspapers. Thank goodness for Sarah. Her book is full of brilliant tips & strategies that you can keep beside your bed when you need itin an emergency (and believe we have had a few teen emergenciesin our house & so have most of our friends by the way). Or you can read the inspiring stories about how families have dealt with life & come out the other end & there is life at the other end of teens & be prepared & ready when you house turns upside down.
No matter how good a parent you think you have been nothing can prepare you for being a parent to teens, so prepare yourselfin advance & enjoy the very readable no jargon, Help my teenager is an alien
