good start to revise but.. - By: Ms. A. C. Lokuge, 23 Dec 2008
This book is really good start to finals revision but when i compared the topics covered to the mighty oxford handbook, it has missed out several conditionsin many areas. But i found that ok as i just added my own notes into the book. I really liked the bullet point format it makes it easy to revise from.
the format was good going through -clinical symptoms, investigations, management complications, with diagrams.
Not good enough - By: Finalyearmedstudent, 16 Nov 2008
Just to warn you all this book isn't adequate for revising for written finals.
Content wise it is lacking basic information that will be expectedin finals such as British Thoracic Society guidelines for asthma treatment, NICE guidelines for hypertension management etc. Strange as both authors are basedin London.
There are also no pictures for dermatology & other similar basic flaws, I'm not sure what they were really thinking when putting this book together.
Index is poor as with all of the K&C series also doesn't reference to Clinical Medicine that well.
Test yourself questions at the end of chapters are also limited.
Positives include a wide range of conditions coveredin standard definition, prevalence, symptoms, investigations, treatment, prognosis format. Some good introductory chapters on biochemistry, imaging etc.
The book that has everything - By: Michael Wilson, 14 Mar 2008
Title says it all. Cross referenced to the most recent edition of Kumar & Clark & follows the same chapter format.
Essentially, each chapter is summarisedin an easy to read format with questions at the end of each chapter to test your knowledge. Good diagrams, & well written.
Easy to pick up & use at your leisure without having to re-read reams of text. Can't think of any medical topic that isn't coveredin this book. Great for cramming before exams.
Also, it is one of those books that smells brilliant.
