The tenth edition of this book maintains a strong practical aspect,in both the general considerations of anaesthetic procedures & the interaction of these procedures with animals of all the domestic species,in various disease states. The initial section describes aspects of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology & pathology pertinent to all anaesthetic patients & combines these with practical considerations regarding evaluation & monitoring of patients from experienced anaesthetists. The chapter on local analgesia, including epidural techniques is one I found particularly interesting & again, the description of the procedures allows one to perform them with confidencein practice. A second section gives a comprehensive & specific review of anaesthesiain all of the common domestic species, & a third considers the approaches to anaesthesia for particular circumstances such as obsetrical manipulations & intrathoracic surgery. Throughout, the book is writtenin a clear & concise style & illustrations are used effectively to further clarify the content. A mine of informationin an affordable & accessible book. JH
