Slow Cooker Cookery - By: G. Rowe, 31 Aug 2010
As a beginner with a slow cooker this was just what I needed. There were plenty of useful tips at the start & the recipes all had good illustrations which were very tempting, as well as clear instructions. There was also an interesting range of recipes.

200 slow cooker recipes - hamlyn - sara lewis - good for everyone - By: joey jo jo, 18 Aug 2010
This book is very very good.
Having bought a fair few slow cooker books recently, I can say without a doubt that this one is the best one for the array of recipes included & the price of the book. For under a fiver, you really can't go wrong.
Sara Lewis writesin a way that is not condesending, but gentle & helpful. She also provides you with helpful hints & tips about slow cookers. For example, Sara explains about the different sizesin slow cookers & why its important to buy a slow cookerin a size that is right for your needs, not just the biggest & cheapest one you can find. It makes all the difference.
I would suggest that when you buy this book, you take time to flick through the recipes & see which ones you would like to try first.
This is because, at first glance, the list of ingredients on some recipes may seem long & complicated, however, on closer inspection, you will find that the many of the recipes use ingredients that you already havein your storecupboard or that will make their way into your cupboards on a regular basis. It works out economical too since these ingredients are herbs, spices, stock etc which, once bought, will be used time & againin your cooking. Purchasing beef, chicken, salmon or fresh vegetables etc can be worked around so long as you planin advance.
As you become more confidentin your ability to use your slow cooker, you will begin to adapt the ingredients to make variations on a dish you like or because you may not have all the ingredients you require.
With regards to the time takes to prepare these dishes, 15 or 20 minutesin the morning is no time at all, SO LONG AS YOU ARE PREPARED & are willing to get up 30 minutes earlierin the morning to make sure you have enough time.
You can even chop up some ingredients (or lay them out ready on your work surface/in the fridge the night before) so that you don't feel so rushedin the morning.
If you are unwilling to putin just a little effort, then you might find it difficult to get the best from your slow cooker.
Even men who are reluctant to cook will find this style of cooking appealing. Why? It means that for a little workin the morning, they can produce a dish that is healthy & economical, & come home at the end of the day with dinner ready & waiting. In addition, it's very difficult to burn a recipein a slow cooker.
This book is also perfect for students/house-sharers etc who like each other & want to help split the costs of food between them.
Remember, you don't have to use your slow cooker every day - why not try using it over the weekend first, so that you can get used to using it rather than trying to use it on a weekday morning when you're already late for work & feeling stressed.
Slow cooking can be daunting when you begin at first, & mistakes will be made! However, it will prove to be one of the best lessons that you will ever help yourself to learn.
P.S., browning meat before you add it to your slow cooker really does help...for taste & appearance!
A veritable feast of delights. - By: RosieB, 31 Jul 2010
Having been stumped for ideas after the recent purchase of a slow cooker, I happened upon this little book. It is jam-packed with recipes & after the pretty miserable recipe book which was included with my slow cooker I have been having a great time experimenting! My husband is delighted with it all & I can highly recommend this book. Happy slow cooking!
Things I didn't know - By: Auntie Chris, 17 Jul 2010
I bought this item to go with a slow cooker I bought for my daughter & son-in-laws wedding anniversary. I was very impressed with it. I have had a slow cooker for years, but I didn't know that you could make jamin it. I had also never thought of making rice puddingin it. Needless to say I copied out a couple of recipes before I gave it to them & told them I may want to borrow it again. On second thoughts, I may well buy myself one.
