Another Great Edition From Russel Ash - By: Mr. T. Davis, 08 Oct 2008
Just received this latest edition of the long running 'Top 10 of Everything' series, & as always its nicely produced, laid out & thoroughly researched.
There is a good 'now & then' comparison feature,in which 2008 is compared with 1988 to see how our world is changing & evolving. For example 20 years ago no countries average life expectancy hit the 80 year mark. Now ALL the top 10 do.
The facts & figures are immense, & Ash's work is as exhaustive as ever. Every few pages you are left with a 'Wow! I never knew that' moment.
HOWEVER I must criticise the publishers & general retailers with this series. They always seem to market it as a book for children & young teenagers, & a 'fun fact' book, but it is morein depth than this. Of course there is the usual fodder about Top goalscorers, & largest dinosaurs etc., but there are some truly sobering statistics that adults will appreciate & get an indication of the worlds issues (HIV rates, rates of deforestation, gun crime etc.)
Yes it's a good kids book, but it truly is for all ages. On a side note it's also a good investment if like me you compile/participatein pub quizzes. Another great addition to the series, & ideal present.
