Useful Beginner's Guide - By: Elizabeth Taylor, 11 Nov 2007
I bought this book as I had just purchased a new I-MAC, and, had never had one before so needed some guidance. The book is split into eight sections: 1) What's new 2) MAC/OS Survival Guide 3) MAC/OS Basics 4) System Preferences 5) Applications & Utilities 6) Unix Basics 7) Configuring Your MAC.
In the first month I found the book very usefulin helping me setup the desktopin the way that suited me, creating a login, setting up security & getting to grips with the basics. It also had an explanation of what to do if the MAC locks up, and, although its more stablein my experience than windows, yes it does lockup. All the informationin the book is availablein the manuals within the MAC or on line but I simply prefer to have a paper book that I can refer to (especially for specific tasks such as password management). Since that first month, however, I use it very rarely.
Soin summary it's a very useful quick guide to a new starter on the MAC, if you have used one before or if you prefer to learn on line then it's not for you.
