I think this book is a great reference & would certainly carry it around with my iBook since I've just switched from windows. However, it's not something you'd read from cover to cover & if you want a really indepth introduction to the Mac OS it's probably not what you're looking for.
Still, a good starting point & something I'd find especially useful as a quick Unix guide & explanation of the basic system features.

This Pocket Guide sits beside your Mac OS X, unobtrusive, until you have a problem then you realise what a little gem this book really is. Weather you take itin your pocket on the road or leave it on your desk it quickly becomes indispensible & inseparable from your Mac OS X Panther. It provides comprehensive answers to practically anything you need to help you use your Mac OS X to the full. If you have just switched from Unix, Windows or even Mac OS 9 you will qickly find it's a book you can't do without. Readable yet concise it's helped me through many of those situations where I have simply got "stuck"! This book saved me from many disasters, easing me through The Mac OS Xin my early days of switching from Windows. Yet I still find there are times when I need to delve into the pages, which are full of tips & hints to get my work easily & quickly accomplished. The "Mac OS X Survival Guide" is just that, especially useful for anyone but the really clued up Mac techies. The best bit for me is not having to carry a huge volume around with me when I am using my Mac Power Book. I bought the Power Book for portability & this book goes easily where ever my laptop goes. Drop itin your pocket or handbag & you are ready for anything. The quick reference with a listing of basic keyboard commands is really handy. They always say that "Great things comein small packages" & if you buy this Mac OS X Panther Pocket Guide you will know that this sure is a great package you won't want to be without. Highly recommended - get your own & make your Mac OS X really whizz.
