Wonderful inspiration for all travellers - By: AP, 03 Jan 2009
The Manin Seat 61 gives an authoritative yet friendly rundown on the whys' & wherefores' of European rail travel. In succinct & well written sections you can find out everything from how to travel with your bike to how to get to Prague (I fancy the overnight train from Cologne myself)

It is inspiringin helping you to realise how much easier & pleasurable rail travel is, & once you have got your head around the anachronisms of some of the European websites the world (or Europe at least) is your oyster.

We are using the book to help plan a family summer trip to Italy, as well as weekends away. Coupled to the Thomas Cook rail map I cannot see any need to fly anywherein Europe again.

Mark Smith is the man - By: H. Lewis, 16 Oct 2008
I have been using the seat61 website since 2002 & it has helped me plan loads of fab train trips - to Budapest, Berlin, Granada, Lisbon, Rome & others. Now the book means I can continue planning from the comfort of my Saturday morning lie in, dreaming the morning away! Not just Seat 61 - he deserves a seatin the House of Lords!
Full of good ideas - By: Technical Tourist, 26 Sep 2008
Lots of ideas on how to take trains & get to places. Have started to use it for travels, & am now taking much more civilised trips..... with the added bonus that you have no airport hassles, travel greener, take as much whisky & toothpaste as you like, & see the countryside! Read it & be inspired. It can work out just as cheap as air travel!
Essential and Inspirational - By: Paul Jaymes, 12 Aug 2008
Absolutely everything you need to know about travelling by trainin Europe - one of the most rewarding & under-rated experiences you can ever hope to have. Leave the budget airlinesin the sky, pack an inter-rail pass, a Thomas Cook rail map, & a copy of Mark Smith's book; then climb aboard to explore a continent & its people on the rails.
