I read all 290 pages of this little beautyin just 3 days, it was so good I had trouble putting it down, I am sure I will be refering back to the sheer avalanche of information contained therein for many years to come. It is very well constructed & the guys who wrote this book have a great sense of humour, they had me laughing aloud more times than your average simpsons episode!!!
Each main chapter has several extremely concise sub-chapters that give you the collective experience of the authors & every other page is adorned with quotes from the biggest DJ'sin the business dispensing their piceless pearls of wisdom. Not one stone is left unturned, as they conspire to educate youin every concievable way, into potentialy becoming the next big thing.
Simply put, if you are thinking of becoming a DJ you need this book.
Awesome - By: Jason C-Y, 08 Feb 2007 I told a friend of mine that I had interestin DJing & she bought me this for my birthday.
I found it absolutely brilliant, it tells you how to use the equipment effectively including the differences between certain makes/models, plus the advantages & disadvantages of different types of DJing (Vinyl, CD & Digital) & even goes on to explain how to try & get into the industry itself.
Not only that but it advises you on what equipment to buy & gives a list of places where it is available.
As a beginner I found it very useful & inspiring, it is down to earth & everything is writtenin a way which allows you to get to grips with what its telling you.
If you want to become a DJ & are not very knowledgable about what it requires then I definitaly recommend this book, even those who have some experience will find something they can use.
Worth every penny.
Best of the lot - By: , 13 Jan 2005 Right. Just bought some decks & don't know what to do with them? This is the book. I wasin that position, & worried about a) being patronised (I play a number of instruments quite well), or b) bored to death by a squillion obscure labels for music I don't like (happy euro trance etc.). Having looked about, this was the only DJ book on Amazon with no negative feedback, & it's for a reason; it really is very very good, for anybody at practically any level (unless you're Cash Money or somebody). Tells you literally everything (technique, technical stuff, business, music industry), doesn't talk down to you, doesn't obsess about style. The authors tell you again & again that it's all about the music, so if that's how you're looking at it as well, I can't recommend it highly enough.
How to Dj properly - the Dj bible! - By: Kian, 29 Jun 2004 I would have to agree like other reviewers that this is proabably one of the best, its probably the Dj bible. As expalined it starts from the very basic shape of the whole dj way down from past masters to tips from the prosin the dj world, pete tong, oakenfold, tall paul etc. It is helpful because it is clear & whilst balancing a level of honesty with the fact its not that starightforward to dj & to become a superstar! It punches out all the fills & blips & compacts them into 280pages of enjoyable read of tricks & tips. I fully recommened anyone who feels like messing with some records! (it even has tips on cd mixing too this book really is the bible for the next several years to come)
The Best DJ Book On The Market! - By: , 21 Jun 2004 Not the most decorative cover, but I was desparate to find a book that would get me past basic scratching, & beatmatching. Not only did this book contain what I wanted, but also all the basics you need to make a great remix, or even your own track. It containsin depth, easy to understand descriptions, clear diagrams, pro dj quotes & advice, basicly all that a bedroom dj would ever need! The book is divided up into 4 Large chapters, with an interesting intro, & a few extras. The chapters are The Bedroom, The Dancefloor, The Masterclass, & The Industry. All are extremely helpful for a dj that's just starting out, & those who have been mixing for years! Overall, a great book, funny at points, & a big shout out to the authors Frank Broughton, & Bill Brewster. You're the best!
