So, like most people, i used CGP notes while doing my GCSE's & found them mostly good (especially on the poem anthologies) - the humour though, while sometimes fun on many occasions gotin the way of serious learning & the notes were brief when dealing with full length plays & novels.
Stepin York Notes. For my A Level English i got one of these books for each of my set texts & they were massively helpfulin prompting class discussions, writing essays & revising for the exams. They offer detailed chapter summaries & analyse themin an extremely informative way.
There's quotes too, maybe a little too few, but the ones they pick out are good & then at the end of the book you get a wealth of extra info relating to characters, themes & symbolism. If you're an A Level English student or a parent who wants their kids to do well, i'd get these notes - they make your life a lot, lot easier.

Really useful - By: Ms. Kate Mchale, 20 Nov 2004
Im an A-level English student & I used this book for my exam last year. It contained just about everything I needed, at least as a starting point. The summaries were useful up to a point but the best bits are definitely the themes, characters & the context as these can sometimes be difficult to research. There are also many connections mande between "Streetcar.." & other texts. I have several different York Notes books & although they are all useful, I personally have found this one the best. As a series they contain all the information you need to get started with studying a text.

York notes on A Streetcar Named Desire is very informative & is an excellent help for students studying AS & anyone who wants to further their knowledge on Tennesse Williams. The book has excellent scene by scene summaries & also very informative notes on aspects of the play including themes & characters. It also has a list of further reading, also very helpful for an english course.
