As both a College EFL lecturer & private Cambridge exam coach, I find this book an excellent coursein preparation for First Certificate. If a student knows all the grammar & vocabularyin this book, they'll have no problem passing the exam. The layout of the book is friendly & the material contained under each topic is comprehensive. As an EFL teacher of many years standing, I've tried other course books, but always return to Focus - it just has everything a student needs. I, personally, cannot recommend it highly enough.
