Love it!! - By: Book 1981, 22 Jul 2010
I'm giving this box set such a high score based on the outrageous fun the Sookie Stackhouse novels provide. If you take these books for what they are - Utter escapism, a complete fantasy filled with cheap thrills, sexy romps & intrigue - Then you will not be disappointed. But if you are expecting something intellectually challenging or the height of literary accomplishment, you will be disappointed & the obvious question will be why you went near these booksin the first place. These are not books to be taken seriously, but this, to me, does not reduce their value.

The narration is saturated with a dry matter-of-fact humour which had me laughing out loud more than once (one example is the statement Sookie makes when a vampire shows up driving a blood-red Mustang: "You never see a vampirein a Ford Fiesta"). Sookie, the telepathic heroine, is instantly likeable, sarcastic, sassy, funny, brave & fallible like the rest of us. The other characters jump off the pagein glorious technicolour, delicious, shocking, original & buzzing. The storylines are clever, fast & never seem too easy, & there is plenty of suspense, romance & twists to keep the reader interested from beginning to end.

The only thing that irritated me a little was the constant re-capping of previous events. These are not stand-alone books, & should be readin the correct order to make the best out of them. Once that premise has been established, the recapping is unnecessary & tiresome. But this irritation is brief & hardly worth noting.

I should probably also point out that this series is, beyond any doubt, for women - Sit back & enjoy Bill, Eric, Sam, Quinn, Alceed & Jason. As Sookie would have put it: "Oh yum!"

Great series - By: Janmo76, 22 Jul 2010
I own & have read the entire series of these books & am a huge fan of not just the books but the HBO series. I highly recommend these books especially to fans of the show, but I would like to say that HBO has veered from the books & only the basic storyline is the same. Allin all, a very enjoyable read.
Love it - By: blossom1044, 19 Jul 2010
I saw the first few episodes of True Blood & then bought the first book. I AM HOOKED.

I like this Genre as I read Keelly Arm Strong & Kin Harrison. These are lighter fun.

I bought the bookset as it was a bargain. I am almost finished. I can't put the books down which is hard as I then go to bed late.

Very readable & lots of fantasy fun.

If you are a True Blood fan - please note the books are different. The TV series sort of follows the gist, but goes off tangents & adds extra characters which are only perifialin the book. Personal opinion - treat them seperate, but similar & you'll enjoy the lot.

Great fun.

A must buy, I read the whole setin a week - yes really I enjoyed the stories so much.
Totally addictive - By: H. B. Hosegoood, 16 Jul 2010
I haven't seen the TV series & hadn't even heard of Charlaine Harris when I bought this box set on a spur of the moment thing. Now I have a huge holein my life, having read through the whole set of books back to back - where do I turn to now for more about Sookie? I believe there is another book which I shall have to read very slowly & savour because I can't stop thinking about the characters.
These are very easy-to-read books with plenty of sex & violence, butin a Bruce Willis kind of way, so you won't be frightened to go to sleep - except that you won't find out what happens next if you do. Go on, treat yourself.
