If you have a sweet tooth then for a good price this book is worth a try - By: Curly.Lockz, 01 Jan 2009
I have had both editions of this book & recently acquired the new addition for Christmasin 2008, this recipe book is a part of a small collection of books covering a variety of simple & tasty dishes. I really love this book & it is a perfect reference point for me. I have created many of the recipesin this book & have enjoyed every single one of them. If you are thinking of purchasing this book then I do recommend trying the chocolate flapjacks on page 103 & the American cheesecake on page 124.
However if you are looking for a traditional sponge cake or chocolate cake book I personally wouldn't recommend it however if you are looking at adventuring out of the Victoria sponge era & trying something new & following a simple yet effective recipe then I would purchase this book. It is perfect for creating something a little different for afternoon tea or as a mother to cook tasty treats with her children. My original copy has several handwritten notes where I have adjusted the recipes to suit certain taste buds & add a few optional extras along the way.

I already knew this book was a bit short on photos but it's a good book just the same. I confess I have been a tad disappointed with one or two of the recipes (chocolate meringue shortbread springs to mind)but a bit of tinkering will sort out the problems. However, whether you are a fully fledged domestic goddess or a beginner this is a good one to have on your shelves.

I have been using this book for some years, I find it useful for all the recipes that are dairy free, I love baking muffins with the kids, they are so easy to do, & the banana, oat, raisin loaf is yummy!
Great book ALOT of recipies new & old - By: , 08 Feb 2006
If like me, when looking for inspiration to cook you need mouthwatering colour pitures/photos to tempt you then this is probably not the book for you. It is a basic black & white compact book with the odd colour photograph.
However saying that, this is just like all other booksin the classic 1000 series & has some fantastic recipes & a great selection of classic, modern & new desserts/pudding recipes.
A bargain price for the selection of recipes even if a little imagination has to be used!
good - but few pics - By: Mandy McCarthy-ward, 20 May 2005
A good variety of cakes, including slices, cookies, no bake.
the downside for me is I like pics to entice me & to let me have an idea what the end product should be & it doesnt have many.
Will use it quite a bit though
