not a bad one in there ... - By: mini_chick, 16 Nov 2008
I've been vegetarian for all my adult life & I can honestly say that I have never found a recipe book with as high a hit rate as this one. I've tried loads of the meals & all have been fantasic. What I like most is the combination of really easy to follow recipes, easy to find ingredients & exciting/unusual flavours.
I've bought this book a few times to give as presents once people had tried some of the food at my place. It's a cheap little book & as an added bonus, you have a breakdown of the recipes by carbs, fat & calories, so it's easy to find something to suit your needs.
If you only buy one vegetarian recipe book, buy this one. You really won't be disappointed.
Nifty little book - By: Andrea Smith, 30 Sep 2008
This book is proof that good things comein small packages - it was lying unused on a shelf for a long time before I picked it up & decided to make something from it & since then the book has become grubby & stained due to the number of times I've used it. Someone else has already pointed out it is great value for money & I definitely agree on this.
A perfect book for when you need something quick to make after a long day at work! It's full of easy, uncomplicated recipes.
Good simple and tasty - By: Globe Trotter, 14 Jul 2008
I have made lots of the recipesin this book (in fact its one of my most used recipe books)- they are always tasty, & filling, & generally fairly cheap & quick & easy to make. Unlike alot of recipe books, it tends to use mainly ingredients you would havein your cupboard, with means less trips to the shops & less money spent (and you dont end up with a cupboard full of stuff you bought for a recipe & will never use again!)
Its also fairly unsahamed about using tinned stuff or ready made sauces if it makes the recipe quicker of easier, which is a plus, & often putein alternatives things you can use if you dont have a particular ingredient, or suggests alternative ways of cooking something to make it easier.
I'm not vegetarian, but I do like vegetarian, & didnt find that I felt like any of the recipes I made were missing meat.
Only one minor quibble - they often recommend using vegetarian alternatives to ingredients, for example vegetarian parmesan, vegetraian pesto, vegetarian feta, & I found these pretty hard (or impossible). If you are a meat eater like me, & can use normal parmesan/pesto etc, then this book is fine. If you are Vegetarian & know where to get necessary veggie alternatives, also fine. If you are a meat eater looking for something to cook for vegetarian friends, be prepared to change your recipes if you cant find the right ingredients.
not what I expected - By: smcl, 28 Mar 2008
I have a few of these little goodfood books & they have been brilliant. After deciding to cut right back on the amount of meat we eatin our house i opted for this book but was a little surprised. Many of the recepies contain quite a lot of cheese (which my husband & son will not eat)meaning that it probably wont be thumbed through like the rest of my books. The dairy free chapter & the casseroles chapter did have some really good ideas but i have been a little put off with the calories & cheese contentin the other chapters.
High calories alert!!! - By: K. Donnelly, 22 Jan 2008
Yes the recipies do look delicious, but the calories are so high!!
On average most of the recipies contain over 300 - 400 calories per serving & some into the high 500s! Even the salads are 350-450 calories!
I'm sending it back.
