Wonderful - Hacker and Appelby at their best - By: catherineh@cancer.bham.ac.uk, 01 Nov 2001
The Right Honourable Jim Hacker & his Permanent Secretary Sir Humphrey Appelby cross swords againin these hilarious yet worryingly plausible accounts of British political life. Hacker tries to reform local government, the education system, & the Arts Council grant, but Appelby is always on hand to put obstaclesin his path. Each tries to outmanoevre the other, with implied threats, cunning & timely leaking of information all the order of the day.
As usual, the battles between the two are marvelously crafted, & beautifully executed by Paul Eddington & Nigel Hawthorne. Wonderful stuff that has me laughing every time. Especially the new diet of "net breadsticks" for the National Theatre...
Great way to combat traffic - By: Nihal Mehta, 16 Jul 2001
This set of audio tapes is a perfect complement to the books. Among other things, Hackers Churchillian impressions will surely make you laugh out loud. You'll be the only onein traffic who will be enjoying yourself. So, give yourself a treat & get these audio tapes. Caution: If listening to them while on your way to work, make sure you don't start talking like Humphrey Appleby to your boss. These tapes are so infectious that you will find yourself mouthing the words.
