Don't start with this one if you're new to the series - By: Mr. Michael Heron, 16 Jul 2008
This is certainly not one to start the series with if you are new to Terry Pratchett - it is thematically quite different (which is understandable considering that it's the first of his Discworld books) & rather roughin parts. It's certainly one to read once you're familiar with the world, but you'd be better off starting with something like Mort or Soul Music to get a better flavour of what Discworld is all about.
Discworld Begins. - By: genejoke, 30 Apr 2008
Ok you dont need to read every discworls novel, nor do you need to start here but I think it helps. This is one of the best, Rincewind has always been my favourite Pratchett Character anyway.
I loved it - By: discmythnut, 26 Apr 2008
I loved the book & all its characters down to the tiniest atom. Rincewind & Death are now official favourite characters of mine & I am now a Discworld fan. I have read through 13-14 books so far & hope to read more, but this one I always come back to.
People may have thought It wasn't that great, but it was better than [[The Last Continent]]!
A joyous new journey. - By: Will Joseph, 21 Apr 2008
Having read about Terry Pratchettin the press a lot recently, I decided I'd give his Discworld series a bash & am I glad I did. In this first bookin the series we meet the characters Rincewind & Twoflowerin the city of Ankh-Morpork & follow them through a series of bizarre quests & adventures that take them to the very edge!
A few hours into the book I was calling my wife who was out shopping at the time & begging her to pick up the next installment as I feared I would finish this one & have nothing to help me continue my own Discworld foray.
Terry Pratchett has given me a momentous escape; another place to where I can escape for a while & live vicariously the fantasy within the books.
Divein & smell the magic. Though that might be the aroma of the River Ankh. You'll soon recognise it.
slow - By: reading fool, 29 Mar 2008
i read thud!, a later discworld book, & i hoped that this book would b as good. i was disappointed.

i felt the book was too slow & confusing on how it was several short stories that somehow linked together

still good
