Necessary purchase for those sitting the BMAT - By: 91, 28 Aug 2010
I used a couple of different guidesin preparing for the BMAT. This I found the most useful as it has excellent explanations & very relevant examples. If volumes of practice questions for the BMAT is what you want, then I would recommend buying another guidein addition to this & this guide is all about quality not quantity. I think it's important to adopt this method as you need to understand what the test entails (this guide covers this) but also you need heaps of practice before the exam & additional guide should cover this.
highly recommend - By: Steph, 26 Jul 2010
Really helped prepare me for the BMAT. A great book, with lots of practice questions & details on how to answer the questions to get the highest possible mark.
Adequate, but perhaps overpriced. - By: Sarah S., 26 Dec 2009
This book does give a good description of the BMAT examination process & style, as well as a fair deal of practice questions. However, it is quite expensive for a book that does not help much with improving your score - so, I would advise looking at the practice exams on the website before purchasing. For the writing section there is good advice on improving your essay, but most of this is still mere common sense. Only recommended for desperate situations close to the exam date.
If you're taking the BMAT, you have to buy this - By: J. Harris, 27 Jun 2009
I bought this book as it is the official guide & it is recommended on the BMAT website.
There are example questions & answers for each section, & most importantly explanations of how to obtain the answers is given. This allows the reader to understand how to approach the questions, some of which are quite different from those presentedin GCSE/A level courses.
As there are so many books & courses out there that aim to improve your performance I think its important to realise you dont have to spend loads to obtain a good score & gain a place studying medicine/biomedicine.
The website & book combined gave me all the preparation & practice I needed to sit the test.
Very helpful and helps with all aptitude tests including UKCAT and US SATs - By: Mr. A. M. Laffey, 10 May 2009
I bought this when I thought I was going to do medin London & eventually got offers with some good scores on both the BMAT & UKCAT. It's a mature & informative book that definitely helps prepare you not onlyin terms of what to expect but also about the necessary mindset you will need to have. However, what surprised me most was that after deciding against med, taking a gap year & reapplying to the US, I found that it was still pretty useful when I was working for the SATs. Essentially it just helps prepare you for aptitude testsin general since they are so different from GCSEs or IB, or A level. I didn't even bother getting a textbook or any help for the SATs & now I've got an offer for NYU so this book was seriously good value.
