A classic - By: BookWorm, 09 Dec 2007
The number of decades this book has beenin print speaks for itself - it is a classicin its field. Barry & Chorley manage to explain things clearly & simply, but without 'dumbing things down.' However, it does cover a lot of material, so if you're looking forin depth information on a particular topic or you already have a fairly good knowledge of meteorology you'd probably be better off lookingin a more specialist textbook. As an intro to weather & climate though it can't be beaten -in fact it was coming across the first edition of this book that influenced me to study geography at uni.
mmm, plankton and fish - By: Andrew Russell, 09 Sep 2004
Great. An 8th edition. It's a good book on Meteorology.
My favourite passage, which has remarkably made it from the 7th edition, is made about the naming of the positive phase of ENSO, & I quote "...locally termed La Nina - the girl - on account of its richnessin plankton & fish."
Roll on the 9th Editionin which the authors will hopefully expand on this sentence!
Exceptional, well written and worth every penny! - By: , 09 Sep 2000
This book is incredible (as is its author). I really enjoyed reaidng it, & find Chorley's coverage of complex material enlightening, informative & most of all extremely interesting.
Chorley's style is like a father talking to his child, accessible & seductive. The sound of his voice resonates through my head as I read his work. He is an extremely accomplished author, whom unlike many scientists is easy to understand.
I can just say that this is the best book I have ever read, & I really admire the author's seductive style.
