This is the DP I love to read reminds me of some of her older books, Alpha male leads are great
This book was supposed to be the start of a new LTT series....hmm - By: Mrs. Rita Roberts, 18 Sep 2008
Book is 219 pages long, & on page 18, Boone accuses Keeley (a vet's nurse) of faking his dog's illness to delay him going on a date to try to get his attention. There are very few scenes with the leadsin them - there are so many other characters & couplesin this book that we seem to be getting told a number of tales at the same time, & so the 2 leads only manage to have their first scene togetherin a library just before closing time, on page 87...boring. On page 119, they have a dance at the community centre & a couple of kisses...nothing else happens, apart from the fact that he tells people she's been chasing him...On page 156 he aks her for a drive & tells her he's starving for her, & dying for her, but when she objects to being touched (due to scarring she has on her shoulder, which is a BIG secret - another Diana Palmer female lead who is less-than-perfect physically...why oh why does DP feel the need to demean her female leads with physical flaws/disabililties) he tells her it's over (I didn't think it had even started!). On page 160 he gets a package delivered & asks her to come & look at something, which turns out to be blatantly doctored pictures of herin bed with his brother, who he knows she is not dating, just pretending to. She tries to lower her blouse to show him her scarred shoulder & prove that it's not herin the pics, but he thinks she's trying to undress to seduce him, so on page 163 she leaves after he orders her away, & gets bitten by a rattlesnake, nearly dying. Hmm, apparently Keeley had decided she would never marry & have children becasuse her scarred shoulder had once made a 16-year old date throw up when he saw them after fumbling her shirt off - great logic. Oh, & the good old Jacobsville posse gets a mention likein every DP book - Sheriff Carson Hayes, Harley Fowler, Dr Coltrain, Cag & Tess (yet again the movie 'Babe' is mentioned, together with Cag's aversion to eating pork)thrownin for good mix, & there is the usual 'they say/people say' when talking about the male lead's quirks (he is cold with women, does not touch them tho he is dating them) & exploits. Oh, & her father is a druggie & an outlaw & is out for her, so the whole police forcein 2 counties are out to protect her. Oh, & yes, & evenin Comanche Wells, likein Jacobsville, there seems to be an issue with people obsessed with what Americans call biscuits, which I think we call rolls...and Keeley just happens to love baking... Too formulaic & boring for me. Diana should really call it a day before she alienates readers who have been fans since day 1.
