Used as part of the AA100 O.U. course. A really enjoyable read on it's own. Beautifully written.

Bought this book as part of an Open University Degree syllabus. I enjoyed it very much, I read more than was required for the course for my own pleasure. Lots of great little stories, good if you don't have much time for pleasure reading or never finish a novel!
Not Just for an OU Course - By: woolly-minded, 06 Jan 2010 This is a set book for an Open University Arts course which is why I bought it. However, I enjoyed reading thisin its own right. The stories are wonderful, from the first to the last. Some have really stayedin my mind. I loved the first story by Nadime Gordimer - couldn't get it out of my head for days, & like another reviewer, I loved the Ana Menendez story. William Trevor's story about Ireland also resonated.
Some favourite authors arein there: Alan Sillitoe & V.S. Naipaul, however I have been enriched by the stories from authors whose works I hadn't read before & will be looking to read more.
I looked forward to reading this bookin the evenings after a tiring day & will re-read my favourites again. Highly recommended.

EACH STORY IS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEXT ONE AND PROVIDES GOOD ENTERTAINMENT AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE CULTURE AND COUNTRY FROM WHERE THE STORY ORIGINATES.
