The most wonderful book I've ever read. I would like to repeat Mrs. Scarrott's review. If you only read one bookin your lifetime let it be this one. This book has really taught me what it means to be a humanitarian. There are so few peoplein the world like Greg Mortenson & I hope his story will inspire more to follow his lead. Please read this book & understand a little more about these inoffensive people who desperately need to be educated & supported.

It opened my eyes to another side of the 'War on Terror' & I shall be purchasing copies for friends & family for them to be equally enlightened. I cannot recommend this book enough & urge you to buy it!

Its got all the markings of an excellent novel - gun fights, love story, opium traffickers, mountain climbing tragedies; it's nerve wracking, engaging & inspiring. But this is no novel, it's REAL. Then encourage others to do the same. - By: sgeoff, 02 Aug 2008 This is an inspiring book about an amazing man, & a revealing portrait of the frontier regions of Pakistan & Afghanistan. We can learn much about Islam here - Greg Mortenson encounters both the dangers of extremism & the Saudi-financed madrassas, but also the goodness & hunger for education found among so many Muslims who welcomed him as their friend. This is not an openly political book, but does act as a powerful reminder of the blindness of American policyin the region, of missed opportunities & broken promises, & that extremism is best defeated by education & development not by often indisciminate bombing. Above all, one man giving selfless service can make a difference ! A book to recommend without reservation. It deserves the widest possible readership.
Brought me to tears... - By: Shazia S. Shah, 22 Jul 2008 I've learnt so much from this book its unbelievable....i've already got 5 people lined up asking for my copy & i've just finished!
I really admire Greg as he went into an area like Pakistan with the right mind-set & the right intentions. I loved the fact that he gave an honest opinion about what he saw without being judemental at all. I myself come from Attock which is a northern city close to Peshawarin Pakistan. Too often the media only ever depicts the negative aspects of the Muslim religion & culture. furthermore, too often people judge Islam & Muslims by the 'bad apples'. Please read this book it will enlighten you.
