You'd almost feel sorry for Cherie... - By: M, 02 Sep 2008
But, no, I can't feel sorry for that pair! This is only a mildly-gripping thriller, a good beach read that I polished offin a couple of days ... but its satirisation of the Blairs is quite hilarious. And there's a jolly good twist at the end.
Not up to the standards of Enigma/Fatherland but well worth the cover pricein amusement value.
Not much of a thriller, but a bit of a giggle - By: J. A. Harrison, 02 Sep 2008
Let's face it, the interest of this book is that it's a thinly-disguised (make that not-at-all disguised) novel about Tony & Cherie.
As a thriller, it's weak. The central character - a ghost writer who is left un-named to make him more...well...ghostly, I guess, is underdrawn & not very interesting. The writing craft pieces are quite interesting, but there are whole chunks of descriptive writing - mostly to do with the American locations - that you end up skipping, which kind of undermines the 'I'm a pacy writer' credibility of the narrator/central character.
The 'revelations' about the fictional Tony & Cherie are funny. They make a horrible kind of sense & I can imagine a lot of people - the kind of people who went on 'Da Vinci Code' holidays - actually believing them. This thing is really so tongue-in-cheek, it's a wonder Harris could breathe as he bashed it out.
It is short and, I think, a lot more credible than the execrabably silly 'Arch Angel' & the dull-as-ditchwater 'Enigma.'
Harris back at his very best - By: Mrs. Pamela Holmes, 01 Sep 2008
A fantastic modern day thriller. This book had me gripped from the first page to the last. Harris' natural flowing style is easy to read while being intriguing & riveting at the same time. Stylish, witty & at times incredibly humorous.
A must read for anyone. Highly recommended. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Ghost -Robert Harris - By: O. ADIGUN-HARRIS, 24 Aug 2008
This is a fantastic book again by Robert Harris, like all his previous fiction I found it insightful. I believe it has been cleverly written to lead the readers into constantly seeing Adam Lang has Tony Blair but that is part of the beauty of the writing, because for me its brings readers into the complexities of being a ghost writer & the emotions that was involved. He became an unwilling confidant & was left with the burden of the truth & the dangers that went with the knowledge. A beautifully crafted & intriguing story.
The Ghost - By: NoWireHangers, 17 Aug 2008
The heroin "The Ghost"in an unnamed ghostwriter, who takes over the job as ghostwriter for British ex-prime minister Adam Lang, after the previous ghostwriter, Mike McAra, died mysteriously. Our ghost hero travels to Martha's Vineyard where Lang is staying, & while the ghost tries to meet his deadline, Adam Lang is accused of war crimes & the ghost happens upon some of McAra's research, he realizes Lang may be hiding something.
The book is writtenin first person, & it's well written, often funny. The book kept my interest & at first the ending seemed like a bit of an anticlimax, but it eventually delivered, but notin the way I had expected. "The Ghost" may not appeal to all thriller fans but I found it enjoyed it.
