Exactly what it says on the tin! - By: Bono's Hat, 30 Dec 2008
This book does exactly what it says on the tin = Vampire War!
This was the first Saga of Darren Shan book I read. I can't say much, but it is extremely sweet!

Action packed and shocking three stories - By: Stampy, 19 Oct 2008
In Hunters of the Dusk, Darren, Harket & Mr Crepsley head off to find the Lord of the Vampeneze Lord as the War of the Scars rages. In Allies of the Night, Darren & the gang are reunited with some old faces as Darren goes back to school &in Killers of the Dawn, Darren must find a way to defeat the Vampeneze Lord & rescue his friend.
These three novels by author Darren Shan are the three most consistently written stories out of the entire twelve & have that cutting excitement that was always vital to create a dark & dramatic story about a Vampire.
Book 7 Hunters takes a while to get going as the background is once again established & we learn of Darren's dealings as the new vampire prince. Hunters is filled with mystery & a great uncertainty surrounding the identity of the Vampeneze Lord as the vampires hunt around for clues. The use of a witch to the story provides a great insight to the life & magic around the vampire world, plus Evanna is a great funny character & will make you laugh at least a couple of times. The seventh instalment is inconsistent but has some entertainment & a great dramatic climax.
Allies of the Night is the best book of the series without a shadow of a doubt for me. It simply has everything any reader could ever want.
Filled with action, drama & comedy Shan has written a deep tale here as Darren goes back to school whilst the gang continue the search for the Vampeneze Lord. This novel works because of some old faces returning. The humour they provide makes the story very feel good despite the dramatic ideologies also encoded. It is the most light-hearted of books since the opening Cirque De Freak. Nevertheless the drama does step up the ante as the narrative passes half way as characters become more intertwined & has another great dramatic climax.
Killers of the Dawn leaves where Allies finished & Darren & the gang try to find a plan to rescue their friend & try to warn off the humans. This novel has great realism by encoding humans as well as the creatures of the night & for the first time since the early stages, do we have a slight breakaway from the fantasy genre & hit home, & get a sense of what real & normal life is like again. The action & suspense are good once again, if a bit unrealistic & inconsistent but hang on for the dark twists at the very end, the most shocking & surprising of the saga so far, which finishes on a dramatic end to an action packed entertaining three stories.

The beggining of the end for Darren and co? - By: P. Watson, 10 Oct 2007
You'll be needing the hankies for this one!
The action is fairly non-stopin these three books.
Darren meets a few old friends, & foes. Also, the dying begins! Quite a few characters pop their clogsin these books . . . .
As well as the all the action, there are many emotional moments & even a few funny ones!
Also, you begin to see what the heroes will need to sacarfisein order to 'save the world'.
If you liked the previous Darren books, then you'll love this!
Cripping but predictable - By: M. Tarboton, 04 May 2007
I have really enjoy the whole series up to & including this one. It's a really good story. Yes i couldn't put the book down. The only problem is that it's so obvious from book one who the enemy is.... & it dissapoints that the writer darren shan didn't make the identity of the enemy less obvious.....there i was reading. thinking..ohhhh ahhhh wow he is that enemy no way i would have never guessed.(sarcasm at it's best)
Putting that aside. I haven't enjoyed a story so much as the saga of darren shan... & yes i'm going out straight away to get the next trilogy.... because it's well worth the read...and i think it would make an excellent movie that would rival harry potter....they would have to tone down the blood though.

OK this book I bought with Vampire Rites, so the two blur into one another a little! This book is immensely exciting to read, & like all good fantasy books, completely & utterly draws you into the world that Darren Shan has created. The plot twists are totally, sometimes painfully unexpected, & the ending to Killers of the Dawn actually left me feeling like no book has ever left me. I won't give anything away obviously. You really shoud read Vampire Blood & Rites first, just so you get to know the character's history. But buy this, it is brilliant.
