Trip Down Memory Lane - By: Tealady2000, 13 Oct 2005
Oh Action Man - the best toy of my childhood (yes, girls liked Action Man too - it's a precursor to fancying menin uniforms).
This book describes the glorious history of Action Man, from his birthin 1966, through his retirementin 1984, to his relaunchin the nineties. There are lots of interesting & amusing stories about the people who designed Action Man & his outfits & lots of information about the different figures, uniforms, equipment & vehicles. This is not a comprehensive collector's guide (although it is illustrated with numerous full-colour photos) but more a lovingly written account of Action Man's existence.
Fascinating look at the greatest hero of the 20th Century - By: Tony Neil Roberts, 04 Nov 2004
A must have for all Action Man acficionados. I have been collecting Action Man figures all my life. I became a serious adult collector some twelve years ago &in that time I have purchased several books (every one I know to have been published) on the subject. What makes this book so different from the rest is that until now all Action Man related books have been encyclopedias of the figures, uniforms & vehicles that were produced. This book actually tells the story of Action Man. From his birthin 1964 as GIJoe right through to today.
If you are an Action Man collector, the various books available illustrating the different figures & uniforms are an invaluable resource. However, anyone with a passion for learning more about the life story of the greatest hero of the 20th Century, this is the book for you.
With insights into some of the planned figure & uniform releases that never made it into production, I found this book very interesting indeed. And learning how the first batch of Action Man, SAS products arrivedin the UK smelling of strawberries really made me laugh. I won't spoil it for you, you'll have to read the book, but you must agree, smelling of strawberries is not a very macho image for Action Man.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable read for anyone with an interestin Action Man.
